各パートの前半は哲学者をだいたい時系列に追っていて、後半は哲学のテーマについて書かれていることが他書とは異なる点でしょうか。

1,000ページを超える大作なのでいったいいつになったら読み終えるのかは分かりませんが、ゆっくり進めていこうと思います。

西洋哲学史の洋書で別の候補としては

Bertrand Russell, "History of Western Philosophy"

も考えていました。

ラッセルのほうはみすず書房から日本語訳が新装合本で間もなく出版されますね。

私の本棚41 - 西洋哲学史（野田）

 西洋哲学史の書籍の追加です。

野田又夫, 「西洋哲学史」

前記事の東京大学出版会の「西洋哲学史」が古代、中世、近世、現代をカバーしているのに対し、こちらは副題の「ルネサンスから現代まで」のとおり、近世と現代を扱っています。

東大出版のほうは文体が文学的というか抒情的というか仰々しいというか、読みにくさを感じることが多かったですが、こちらはそういうこともなく、すっきりと書かれていて読みやすいです。巻末には略年表があって哲学者、哲学書、人文・社会の流れを見られます。

私としては東大出版のよりこのちくま学芸文庫の西洋哲学史のほうがお薦めです。

さて、有斐閣から出ている岩崎武雄の西洋哲学史はどうなんだろう？
